Course 3: Certificate in TEFL with Practice Teaching

For this course, you have to plan, teach and video-record six EFL lessons, each of which should be 60 minutes in length. After completing each lesson, you mail the recording to us, together with your plan and your post-lesson comments. Jeff Mohamed then e-mails you an in-depth critique and evaluation of your lesson; this will include very detailed suggestions on how to improve your planning and teaching skills.

If you would like to see a sample critique, please click here.

If you are currently teaching EFL/ESL, you can record lessons with your existing class(es). If you are not yet teaching, you will need to arrange a suitable class of foreign students to teach on a volunteer basis over a period of several weeks. (We will give you advice on how to do this.)

We specify the content of four of the practice lessons and give guidance in how to approach the lessons. Some lessons will focus on the teaching of grammar and vocabulary, while others will involve the development and practice of students' receptive and productive skills. You may choose the content of the other two lessons. (If you need advice on this, we will suggest some suitable lesson topics and types.)

When you have successfully completed the practice lessons, we send you your English International Certificate in TEFL. This states you successfully completed a 125-hour training course that included six hours of evaluated practice teaching with classes of foreign students.

You will be able to use Jeff Mohamed as a reference when applying for TEFL jobs and he will provide you with job placement counseling and guidance for as long as you need it.
